Use Case

Implemented for both indicator-based surveillance and for event-based surveillance as part of the swiss Implementation during the COVID19 Pandemic with a COVID19 specialised version of SORMAS.

Brief Description

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein swiftly implemented SORMAS to strengthen their joint response to the crisis, independent from their existing routine surveillance systems. SORMAS significantly enhanced the countries’ capacity to detect, respond to, and manage the spread of the virus. As the pandemic situation improved, both nations gradually phased out the use of SORMAS. Despite its temporary deployment, SORMAS played a crucial role in facilitating early detection, contact tracing, and coordinated response efforts, underscoring Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein’s proactive approach to public health emergencies.
